5) What tools, support, resources, or people do I need to succeed?

First steps first: Understand what you stand for, what you believe in, what you offer, and who are your target customers. Once you are aware of your own capabilities and limitations (including your strengths and weaknesses), all of the other items to get your blog online will be straightforward.

Have you considered domain names for your business or blog project?

A domain name is the URL for your site, for example:
www.10kwebdesign.com
www.10kgroup.com
www.yourname.com
(and www.yourname.net, www.yourname.org, etc.)

Every website has three parts:

1) the domain name
2) the hosting package
3) the actual files that make up that website

Go ahead and brainstorm. Come up with a domain name/s for your new venture. Check if the name is available by simply opening up a new browser and testing the URL in the address box.

DO NOT use a service (do not use Network Solutions or Whois, or anything else) to check availability (sometimes they will HOLD the URL if you don't buy it after you test it).

Once you're ready with a good domain name, go ahead and follow the online instructions below to reserve your domain name and hosting.

Domain Names and Hosting

All websites are made of a domain, a hosting package, and the actual files of your website.

To purchase domains and hosting, please make sure that the package you have offers PHP and mySQL and runs on a Linux server.

Enter a domain name that you are seeking (checks to see if they are available)

We recommend you buy the following:
www.nameofyourbusiness.com
www.yourname.com

These domains become your permanent property.

2) Continue through the checkout process. We don't recommend that you need any of the alternate options, you may "Continue to Checkout" at the bottom of each page. You may want to consider "private registration" so that your administration e-mail is not viewable to the general public. About half of our clients choose this option.
